Queen’s School Enugu, Enugu State Nigeria
The establishment of Queen’s School Enugu in 1954 was a landmark decision of the then Eastern Nigerian government, to partner with believers in comprehensive education as a panacea for the future economic and intellectual emancipation of a people just about to emerge from colonial rule.
Queen’s School Enugu opened its gates to enroll its very first students that year. Enrollment in Queen’s School Enugu was highly competitive, for some old girls the dream to start life as students of this great institution was made possible by their academic excellence, for some the decision was made for them by parents with a lot of vision who were in search of the best secondary education for their then young daughters.
Since then, this great institution has produced an undetermined number of young women residing all over the world. Young women most of whom have excelled in their different engagements, trade, and professions.
In recent years, the funding of schools was abandoned and educational standards plummeted.
The image that confronts a visitor to Queen’s today, five decades after its establishment is nothing but glut and desolation. The environment is rustic and even its academic statistics yield unfortunately to recession. Apart from the school library and the Biology Lab complex, all the buildings are at various levels of disrepair. There is no running water supply, nurses or health services on campus
